9 Quick and Safe DIY Diwali Cleaning Hacks

Do you want a natural, environmentally friendly cleaning method for your home? Try these 9 quick and safe DIY cleaning hacks the next time you need to clean your home.

Cleaning your home may be a complete nightmare, particularly when you are short on time. We have all wasted time trying to remove tough stains that won’t go away because the tasks around the house never seem to end.

Here are a few quick Do-It-Yourself (DIY) cleaning tips that will save you time and make cleaning much simpler and faster. You can easily clean every surface in your house with the following hacks.

1) Lemon juice for all your tough stainsTry the lemon juice scrub, as this is one of the simplest homemade cleaners. It has never been simpler to clean dirty tiles and grout lines than with this straightforward but efficient solution. If you prefer the aggressiveness of vinegar but don’t want to deal with the strong smell, this one will always be your go-to cleaning hack.

Combine lemon juice and baking soda in a bowl in equal parts. Gently scrub the affected area with a scrub pad or an old toothbrush with a small amount of solution. After that, rinse or cleanse the area using some warm water. Repeat if necessary – the stains will be gone in no time at all.

Use this solution to clean sinks, bathtub stains, grout, tiles, and other surfaces to get rid of stains and limescale marks that often come with repeated exposure to hard water.

2) For buffing, use olive oil

If you cook frequently, the bottoms of your pans and cookware must have certainly developed some burn marks. Instead of spending hours cleaning them with chemical solutions and loads of elbow grease, just use some olive oil.

Olive oil has the innate ability to remove dirt and stains from all surfaces. Use a few drops to clean stainless steel surfaces, or pour some over the cookware’s bottom and lightly scrub to remove all imperfections. After cleaning the cookware, wipe using a paper towel and rinse with warm water to get rid of the residual oil.

3) Vinegar And Baking Soda – The Age Old Bathroom Cleaner

The bathroom is a space that needs to be and should be cleaned on a regular basis. Especially sanitaryware like a toilet bowl, bathtub, and sink to prevent discolouration and bad odours.

While there are many different toilet cleaning products on the market, why not go natural with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to keep your bathroom looking fresh and tidy.

Spread a thick layer of the mix and let it be for some time. Then, rinse the mixture off and repeat this process weekly for the best results.

4) Remove stubborn carpet stains using steam

Many householders’ lives are made miserable by persistent carpet stains. So, to get rid of stains on carpets that have accumulated over months, all you will require is a minuscule proportion of ammonia, a spritzer bottle, and an iron! Taking out tough stains will require more effort, but the effort will pay off with a spotless result.

5) Dust off your ceiling fans with this easy hack

Ceiling fans are one place that accumulates layers and layers of dust. They are also one place rarely cleaned – often only once a year during the Diwali deep cleaning process. It is not because people are lazy; it is just because cleaning the fan can be a long and messy process with dust flying all over.

Well, it need not be one! Simply grab an old pillowcase and simply cover the blade with it. Then gently tap the blade and rub it between the two layers of the pillowcase. All the dust will simply collect in the pillowcase, and your fan will be clean without any mess.

6)Dust your windows with old socks

This is one of the easiest hacks that anyone can follow. You can use those old socks for cleaning your blinds and windows. Just spray some water on the windows or blinds, wear a sock over your hand and simply clean. You will be amazed by how much grit and dirt the sock can catch and the nooks and crannies you can reach. And the best part is that you can simply rinse the socks, put them in a washing machine, and re-use them repeatedly until they are holey!

7) Clean out your showerhead

Hard water often leaves its mark as limescale, especially on tiles, sanitaryware and fixtures. This is a known fact, and we often combat it with various cleaners. What is not a very known fact is that limescale may also build up inside your showerhead, leading to a slow water supply.

To clean it out, simply unscrew it and soak it in some vinegar for a short period of time to get rid of the built-up limescale. If you are cleaning after a while, then our trusty vinegar and baking soda mix can be slathered on to hasten the cloning process. Scrub gently, and all the deposits will soon be gone. Then it is a matter of simply rinsing the solution off and reattaching the showerhead.

8) DIY Floor Cleaner For Floor Tiles

Dishwashing liquid is a versatile product that can be used on various surfaces, including tiles. You need to simply combine your regular dishwashing liquid with vinegar in a 1:3 ratio (1 part dishwashing liquid, 3 parts vinegar).

Add the aforementioned ingredients in the correct ratio into a spray bottle and shake well to make your own tile and grout cleaning solution. Then, simply spray the required areas with the solution and let it sit for about 30 to 45 minutes before rinsing it off with hot water. Your tiles will be scum free and gleaming in no time at all!

9) Use Some Citrus As A Scrub For Your Wall Tiles

While we have already spoken about how lemon is a powerful cleaning agent, you will be surprised to know that fruits such as oranges and grapefruit make for great cleaners too.

So, the next time you have extra sour fruit that you do not wish to consume, simply cut it in half and top it with some sea salt. Then, gently scrub your tiles until the stains and built-up grime is gone. Wipe clean with a wet rag and air dry. Not only will you end up with glistening tiles, but also with a lingering and delicious citrusy smell in your space.

If you do not wish to use actual fruit to do the cleaning, simply collect the peels and soak them in some distilled water in a spray bottle. Simply rub some coarse salt onto the stains on your walls and spray this concoction over them. Gently scrub, and the stain will be gone in no time at all. No stains on your tiles? Simply spray the water on the tiles and wipe them clean – your tiles will gleam like they are new.

Keeping the home clean requires a certain effort, and if you are not regular with your cleaning activities, dust and grime will build up, leading to triggered allergies and unsightly nooks and crannies. While there are plenty of chemical-based cleaning solutions in the market, using homemade solutions is cheaper and healthier and great for the environment.
