Everything You Need To Know About GVT, PGVT And DGVT Tiles!

Tiles are a great material if you are looking for a perfect blend of durability and class. Available in a wide variety of colours, finishes, designs, textures, and materials, choosing the right tile for your space can feel like a Herculean task. You may feel like all tiles are pretty much the same, especially when it comes to material – aren’t tiles just clay baked at high temperatures? But, in reality, there are minor technical nuances that set the tiles apart.

Glazed Vitrified Tiles or GVT tiles are a popular tiling material.GVT tiles often pop up while searching for tiles, but along with them, you will see two more acronyms popping up – PGVT and DGVT.

So, what are those tiles? And how do they differ from GVT tiles? Read on to know more!

What Are Glazed Vitrified Tiles?

Glazed Vitrified Tiles (GVT) have a layer of glaze on the surface. On this layer of glaze any kind of design can be imprinted using high volume inkjet printers. This ensures any type of design and colour can be customised on the top 2-4mm layer of the tile. Manufactured using the process of vitrification, these tiles are durable and long lasting, with the top extra glaze layer adding to the strength of the tile.

Available in a wide variety of colours, designs, and finishes, these tiles make for a popular flooring option, since they can withstand heavy foot traffic. Another advantage of using these tiles for the floor is that they are available in finishes such as matte, satin matte, and lapato that help increase traction and prevent slips and falls.

But, this doesn’t mean that the tile cannot be used on walls. GVT tiles are a great option for walls too, especially in high traffic zones where there is a high volume of people touching and staining walls. Since these tiles are easy to clean, often all you need is a wet mop and some soapy water to get rid of the stains and spots.

What Are PGVT Tiles?

As the name suggests, Polished Glazed Vitrified Tiles (PGVT) have a polished surface that has a high reflective index. These tiles are available in a wide range of designs and colour- ensuring there is a tile for every colour and decor theme that you choose.

You’ll be astounded by the variety of styles and colours available when you walk into the Tiles showroom of Orientbell Tiles. We know the importance of selecting the ideal tile to go with your decor motif, which is why our showroom has a wide variety. Our tiles showroom provides the perfect solutions to enhance your area, whether you’re searching for traditional elegance or a strong modern statement.

The tiles come with a glossy finished surface that lends the tile a super glossy look, providing a sleek and shiny look to any space they are installed in.

While stunning to look at, the sleek surface of the tiles can be a bit difficult to walk on – making them a bad choice for flooring in places that see high foot traffic. Ideal for use in residential areas such as living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, it is best to steer clear of bathrooms.

As a wall tile, these tiles can be used in almost all areas of residential and commercial spaces, such as kitchens, bathrooms, offices, showrooms, boutiques, malls, etc.

What Are DGVT Tiles?

Digital Glazed Vitrified Tiles (DGVT) have the designs digitally imprinted on the top layer of the tile. Available in a variety of designs, such as marble, wooden or floral, the wide range of DGVT tiles can be installed in commercial and residential spaces. Predominantly available in matte finish, the tiles help increase traction and prevent accidents. This makes them a great choice for spaces that see heavy foot traffic, such as malls, airports, metro stations, restaurants, and bars.

The tiles are also great for installing on walls, since they are durable and easy to clean. Spaces such as bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms can benefit from the application of these tiles – be it on floors or walls.

Difference Between GVT, PGVT And DGVT

1- GVT & DGVT tiles are suitable for use on floors and walls of commercial as well as residential spaces as they come with a less slippery surface to walk.PGVT tiles on the other hand are comparatively slippery, and can be used on floors of residential spaces and walls of commercial and residential spaces.

2- DGVT, and GVT tiles, can be used in heavy foot traffic areas, but PGVT tiles are better used for spaces with less foot traffic.

3- PGVT tiles come with a glossy finish surface, GVT tiles come with a variety of finishes such as matte, glossy, super glossy, satin matte, lapato, metallic and rocker. DGVT tiles are available in matte, rocker and metallic finishes.

4- All 3 types of tiles are easy to clean, but PGVT tiles with their glossy polished surface are easier to clean since they have a smooth surface that doesn’t have many crevices for dust and dirt to settle into.

So, GVT, PGVT, and DGVT tiles aren’t too different from each other – they have the same base with a changing top layer. You can choose which type of tiles to opt for based on your requirements. For example, for spaces like malls and metro stations it is best to opt for matte finished DGVT or GVT tiles, since they help increase traction, while PGVT tiles can be installed in living rooms to inject a sense of grandeur into the space.
